About Island Emblems

Island Emblems was founded by artist and metal sculptor Anthony Holand of Tuck & Holand—deemed "the country's premier weathervane maker" by YANKEE Magazine. Working on his family farm as a child, Anthony was inspired by the diverse forms and textures of the metals all around him. His early artistic pieces explored stainless steel and found objects, and he later discovered lost-wax bronze casting. Anthony pursued his passion for metal sculpting in college and his talents evolved even further.

15 years later

A Trip to MV Leads to Opportunity

On a visit to Martha’s Vineyard in 1996, Anthony had a chance encounter with celebrity sculptor Travis Tuck. Tuck—who created his first weathervane as a prop for the movie Jaws—was looking for an apprentice to help carry on his work. Anthony’s hands-on experience and innate talent helped him stand out among a sea of applicants.

Under the guidance of Tuck, Anthony worked on more than 50 custom weathervanes at the studio. He was instrumental in creating the famous Penn State Nittany Lion Weathervane—the largest full-bodied weathervane in existence. In 2002, Tuck announced a new venture: Tuck & Holand Metal Sculptors. Although he passed away that same year, Anthony has kept the studio’s legacy alive. Eighteen years later, he continues to craft custom weathervanes and other bespoke metal sculptures for individuals, families, and businesses from around the world.

How Island Emblems Came to Be

While researching custom chrome lettering for a Jeep project, Anthony came up with the idea of making a chrome emblem of Martha’s Vineyard. He knew there was a market for it. After all, over the last 30 years, people had cut out the small map of Martha’s Vineyard from a local liquor store bumper sticker and placed it on their cars and trucks. Anthony saw the chance to represent the Vineyard in a much more refined way. Using his 2008 economic stimulus check and self-funding the rest, he created the first of the three chrome auto emblems that would launch Island Emblems.

Today, Island Emblems are sought after by year-round and part-time residents of MV, Nantucket, and the Cape—as well as avid visitors from other regions of the U.S. and the world. Our emblems are the perfect way to showcase your island pride and add signature style to your car or truck. They’re simple to install and stand up beautifully to harsh New England weather without tarnishing. Best of all, they won’t damage your car.
